Why College Costs Rise Even During A Recession

It's an inexplicable phenomenon, the price of college increases every year regardless of the economy's health. If it's any consolation, this year's increase will be the smallest in memory. There are some interesting traditions and standards in the academic field that keep colleges from being as efficient as they can be. Likewise, there are services that most institutions offer that add extensively to the price tag. While Harvard and Yale will always be subscribed to and state universities have done a good job in keeping school affordable, the mid-tier university is at a crossroads. Click on the link above to discover the predicament and the age old systems that are now being questioned.

  1. The college costs are getting to a point where they are just ridiculous. So many families are becoming unable to send their sons/daughters to college and this is not right. Who during this recession has $50,000 to spend a year on colleges such as Lafayette? University's should follow some of the guidelines mentioned in this article in order to lower tuition costs. For example, all a college has to do is cut certain departments which are not being utilized to their full potential such as piano tutoring and this will save a lot of money.

  2. When i see college tuition prices rise, it makes me sick. They know that there is a recession going on and people are struggling so much to make money. So many people are trying to go to college and now more than ever, kids cant go to college because colleges are raising the prices to where people cant even come close to the price. This is going to affect our next generation kids because less people will be going to college and then our country will be even more behind the rest of the world, for example China, they are so far ahead of us and now we will be grasping for air trying to catch up. Yes i know colleges are struggling for money aswell but if they really think raising the price will get them much farther, their wrong. Thanks a lot colleges.

  3. It is getting to a point where people are just going to find an alternative to going to college. People now just do not have the ability to send their kids to college, especially if the price does not go down. Imagine a family that has even more than one kid. If colleges do not make a change, the dream of making AMERICA a more educated country, and having it keep up with the rest of the world might die along with dreams of sending kids to college.

  4. In my opinion, the increasing costs of going to college are going to lead to many problems down the line in our country. More and more people are cutting back and cannot afford to go to college anymore. These young adults are being deprived of an education because they are being robbed by the colleges. Where is all of this increased tuition money really going if universities still have the same costs that they have always had? There needs to be better allotment of funds and less waste; this will allow costs to go back down to where they should be and bring the eager students back to the colleges.

  5. The price to send a child to college is absolutely ridiculous. Because of the high tuition price, many parents are not able to afford to send their children to college. And you think the cost of sending ONE kid to college is bad? Try having to send numerous kids to college at the same time! And not only is the basic tuition for college expensive, but the other expenses add up. For example, the cost to be in a sorority/fraternity is very high, the cost of food adds up, and the cost of books are expensive. Many parents end up taking out student loans and have trouble paying them. If college tuition continues to rise, then the amount of Americans going to college will quickly decrease. I believe if education is really important to this country, then the president needs to quickly do something about the price of college tuition.
