I think that the government is spending way too much money and not on the right things. Although defense important, i feel that we should spend more on education. Education develops people and allows them to access the world of professions. By cutting back on defense sending and spend more on education. The U.S. should not be spending 2% of the whole budget on education. Also, the government should stop bailing out companies that go and use hundreds of millions of dollars to hold lavish company parties. They are spending our tax money, and they are not even inviting us. With a $3 trillion debt, the government should greatly redce spending our tax money, while increasing spending on things that were not receiving enough money to begin with.

I like that this article was written, because many people are completely unaware of where our tax dollars go. They like to complain about "high" taxes without understanding what our country would be like without the money generated from taxes. Think of where we would be if there wasn't any money for national defense. If a war were to begin, oh well, I guess we'll get invaded this time and lose all of our freedoms. Think of all of the families struggling to live on one paycheck that relish the check from Social Security or CHIP. I believe that tax dollars are spent wisely for the most part. Yes, there is corruption, but there is corruption everywhere, and in every country, especially the countries poorer than we.

However, I must complain about our country's debt. I think that the portion of our tax dollars used to pay off the debt should be increased, because I believe that no man should owe money to another; it limits his freedom.

  3. Finally, I got to see where our tax money goes to. I still think it's alarming that education is still so low in the percentage. When it says Defense and Security, does that mean the Iraq war? I think it's messed up that we are spending 21% of our tax money in that, and 3% in education. We are cutting back on books, and colleges are accepting less and less people, which means less people will be getting better jobs, and digging America in a deeper hole. I believe we should rethink where we are putting our money into and get our priorities straight.

Most of the federal budget is spent on programs that do not effectively and efficiently use their resources. 21% of the budget goes towards social security which is given to senior citizens but paid for by every american citizen, while the youth of america is forgotten as 2% of the budget is spent on education. More money is spent on paying off interest on the national debt than educating the future leaders and tax payers of america. The federal government seems to be forgetting the needs while focusing on the wants as money is poured into medicaire, medicaid, and social security programs which should be considered luxuries by today's standards.
